Pecha Kucha Night Cleveland
30 June 2009
I'm presenting at this round of Pecha Kucha at Ingenuity Fest! Come July 10 for the public art and live music, stay for me - and 13 other graphic designers, photographers and artists - presenting at the Sterling Building at 8:20 p.m. Ingenuity Fest costs about $10 - but there are robots! so many robots - but Pecha Kucha is free.
Pecha Kucka was started in 2003 by graphic designers who wanted a way to meet, network and show their work in public. Each presenter gets 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide.
Back from Hearst

Needless to say, my week in San Francisco for the Hearst Championships was incredible. It is so admirable how invested the Hearst Foundation is in the future of journalism. If you'd like to read my favorite story I wrote this week - about San Francisco gang the Scum Fucks - check it out here.
Hello, California
03 June 2009
Well, I made it to San Francisco, where I'm currently holed up at the Palace Hotel preparing for the start of the 49th annual Hearst National Writing Championships. It's been an amazing experience so far, as last night I was able to sit in on the photo orientation/critique with photo editors from Esquire Magazine, National Geographic and the Rocky Mountain News.

Kent State CollegeFest Riots
27 May 2009
I was in Franklin Hall on the Kent State University campus when the College Street riot broke out on April 25, 2009. I didn't have my dSLR with me at the time but I was able to shoot a few frames using a friend's point-and-shoot.
I won!

On January 7, I was awarded 1st place in the editorial category of the 49th annual William Randolph Hearst Foundation's Journalism Awards Program for my April 2008 column, "I am Not a White Bitch." Winning this prestigious award - which I am incredibly honored to receive - means I'll be traveling to San Francisco in June to compete in the Hearst National Writing Championship.
